Meet the Intern: Nelofar
We are ecstatic to introduce our Digital Media Coordinator Intern, Nelofar, to you! Nelo has been rocking it at The Sampson House by writing blogs, brainstorming creative ideas and leading client projects. Her background, personality and drive make her a total treat to work with. More about Nelo below.
Name: Nelofar (Nelo) Sultan
College: Dakota State University
Major: English for New Media
Birthday: October 18th
What projects are you working on at The Sampson House? I am the digital media coordinator intern which means I look over what goes out on some of our digital platforms like Facebook and our blog. I also manage photo shoots for TSH and Rebekah Scott Designs and work collaboratively with Alexis, the graphic design intern, to produce our monthly newsletters, blogs and other micro-content. In addition to managing Prairie Lane Vintage Rental’s Facebook page, I also do their monthly analytics report.
What do you spend your time doing when you’re not working on TSH? As a college student, most of my engagements revolve around clubs and organizations on campus, so when I am not working at TSH, I am either co-chairing for DSU's American Association of University Women (AAUW) or working for DSU’s International Programs Office. I spend a lot of my time contacting prospective international students via phone calls, emails and inquiries, promoting International Programs Office and advertising DSU International club’s activities on and off social media.
Favorite social media platform? Instagram and Twitter!
What are you reading right now? I am reading two books right now, Last Train to Istanbul, a novel by a Turkish writer, Ayse Kulin and Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
What is your ideal weekend? My ideal weekend would include a trip or two to a coffee shop where I can get a lot of reading, homework or work done!
What app could you not live without? Right now, it would have to be Asana.
What’s your go-to coffee beverage? Just a regular mocha or green tea.
When did you develop an interest in marketing? Working for the International Programs Office at DSU made me realize how much I like managing and marketing events. Last year, I also took Web Publishing and Publishing for New Media (which I absolutely loved). This further pushed me towards this field.
What drew you to The Sampson House? The first thing that impressed me about the company was how it was started by three women and how successful they had become within the span of two years. I loved the idea of working for and with these women. The second thing that I loved about The Sampson House is the minimalist aesthetic/approach to everything. I also loved how this small company is working with other small, medium and big businesses around the area.
Favorite way to blow off steam? I take naps or cook to relax.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and what would you order? I would be with Malcolm X and I would order some sort of rice or pasta.
Best advice you’ve ever received? “Don’t be an idiot. Changed my life.” - Dwight, the Office.
What’s your favorite thing about your internship? Being able to learn something new every day I come to work.
What’s your ultimate bucket-list travel destination? I don’t have a travel destination in mind, but it is on my backlist to travel alone wherever that might be.
Favorite restaurant? Chipotle.
3 interesting things about you:
I can speak three languages, fluently.
I can cook creatively. If there are things in the pantry or the fridge that you don’t think you make anything out of, give them to me and I will produce a meal out of it within minutes!
I was the homecoming queen for the 2017-18 school year!
What are you currently listening to on your playlist? I don’t have a music playlist but I do listen to podcasts. My favorite podcasts are by Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff called My Favorite Murder and Revolutionist History by Malcolm Gladwell.
Go-to show on Netflix? It’s always been The Office.
Ultimate dream career? Working as a Media Specialist for a big company like Target.
What do you bring to the table here at TSH? I bring my unique experiences, my voice, and creativity to The Sampson House!
