Breaking Down Instagram’s New App: Threads

The competition between social media platforms is always steep, but Instagram may have just pushed itself to the top with the release of its new app - Threads. Threads, built by the Instagram team, is designed for sharing text updates and joining public conversations. Posts from Thread can be up to 500 characters long including links, photos, and videos. If you begin to scroll through Threads, it feels like you are back on 2009 Twitter, before all of the add-ons. With the simplicity and newness of the app, it is no wonder that 100 million plus users have already joined the app. With Twitter’s daily active users right above 230 million, Threads has the potential to start giving Twitter a run for their money.

It is no secret that Twitter has had a lot of changes throughout the last year. Although Twitter once used to be a conversational app, it has become a platform that is looked at more as a news outlet than a social media platform. Twitter has been struggling with a decline in traffic since the beginning of 2023.

With Threads looking so similar to Twitter, Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, has already said that the company is not going to actively encourage politics and hard news. They want it to stay a platform that people can go to for a conversation-based social. Since setting up a Threads account is extremely easy when you already have an Instagram account, it puts no hesitation in Instagram users to sign up and join the trend.

With all of this being said, are you going to join the Instagram Threads trend or do you plan on staying loyal to the OG Twitter? As for us, we have joined the hype! Check it out and see if Instagram Threads is for you.
