A Day in the Life of Account + Media Strategist, Renae Vinzant

Hello! My name is Renae Vinzant Account + Media Strategist at The Sampson House and I’ve been on the team since December 2022. I hope you can learn a little bit about what I do and what a typical day in the life looks like for me!

My Background

I’m originally from Sioux Falls, but lived 5 miles outside of Hartford where I attended school. I then went to South Dakota State University to get my degree in Advertising with minors in Marketing and Social Media. I previously worked fully remote for two agencies in Minneapolis before deciding to keep calling Sioux Falls home and finding a job here!

Outside of work, I love to travel and try to do that as much as I can! I also enjoy reading and hanging out with my friends in my free time.

What do I do?

As an Account + Media Strategist, I have a variety of different roles on both sides. On the account side, I assist with our client’s projects from creation to completion. On the media side, I handle all of our paid media ads for our clients from planning, buying, and reporting. I love the variety of the role and getting to do a lot of different things throughout the day!

What does my day look like?

7:30 am - Wake up. I’m not a morning person, so I usually wait until the last minute to get out of bed. I typically spend a few minutes scrolling through my phone, a habit I’m trying to break, but alas I still do it!

7:45 am - Out of bed and getting ready for the day. I’m always listening to music at home, so I put some music on as I get ready.

8:15 am - Breakfast time! I’ll like to eat breakfast and get in a few pages of whatever book I’m currently reading. Shout out to the Siouxland Library for providing 90% of the books I read since I go through so many.

8:40 am - Head out to the office! I’ll make an iced coffee for the road and grab all my stuff to head out. I have about a 20-minute drive to the studio, and I like to listen to podcasts on my way. Some of my favorites are The Toast, Chicks in the Office, and Sunday Scaries.

9:00 am - Arrive at the office and time to start the work day! I’ll set my stuff down at my desk and if I’ve brought lunch, put that in the fridge.

9:00 am -12 pm: I check my emails, calendar, and Asana (our project management tool) first thing when I sit down to make sure I am caught up on everything I need to do for the day. I’ll respond to any emails that are needed and try to read a few industry newsletters. I like the Daily Carnage, Digiday, and Marketing Brew! They provide some good inspo for my own work and a great way to keep up on what’s going on in the industry.

Then I’ll go through Asana and start working on my tasks for the day. I think I can speak for everyone at TSH that we love Asana and would be lost without it! It helps keep our whole team on track with projects that we have going on. I’ll get started on any tasks that I need to work on or attend any meetings we have scheduled.

12 pm - 1 pm: Lunch time! I usually bring lunch from home, but there are tons of great lunch spots near the office that I do like to take advantage of every now and then. I’ll also use this time to get in a quick walk downtown if the weather is nice enough!

1 pm - 5 pm: I’ll use the afternoon to knock out any remaining tasks for the day. That could include setting up a media campaign, checking in with a client, or working on projects - whatever needs to get done that day! Before the end of the day I’ll run through my emails and Asana one more time to make sure I’m all caught up for the day on any urgent updates or tasks if they come through.

5 pm - Close down for the day! I’m usually headed to the gym after work to get in a quick workout or attend a class. After that, I like to wind down for the evening by making dinner and watching a show!
