TSH Christmas Traditions
We’re a big fan of holidays here at The Sampson House. Any chance to celebrate and eat good food is a great day in our books. While we didn’t get to spend much of this holiday season together as a team, we still wanted to share some Christmas spirit with one another. We all come from different places, families, and backgrounds so swapping traditions is definitely fun to see!
Although our sense of normalcy in this holiday season is definitely shaken up, we hope you can find some joy and familiarity in our traditions and maybe even find some new ones to add to your list for next year! Here are our Christmas traditions.
Valerie + Jeff:
We love celebrating Christmas traditions. We have many in our house and many that we have newly started since having our own family. One of my favorites is getting matching family Christmas pajamas every year. (Not pictured- me or Jeff lol) but rest assured we all have them.
Kerry:
Omg, which holiday tradition do I choose! Growing up my parents did a wonderful job having so many holiday traditions! Now being a parent myself, trust me, it’s no easy fleet to continue the spirit of Christmas. But some of my favorites are….
- Christmas Eve buffet and eating in the living room (which was a big no no any other day of the year)
- Lighting luminaries up + down the driveway
- Signing Christmas carols in church on Christmas eve
- Holiday baking and delivery treats to the neighbors
- Finding the pickle on the tree, then whoever finds it is in charge of hiding it the following year
- Baking orange slices and stringing them with popcorn and cranberries for garland on the tree
- Picking up a tree ornament on vacations through the year, then when we decorate the tree we spent most of the time reminiscing about past trips
- Driving around looking at Christmas lights while sipping hot cocoa
- Sending holiday cards and letters, my dad has a love/hate relationship with our family cats which turned into his most prized ammunition for the letters
- And of course playing in the snow!!!!!!!!!
I wish all of you the most wonderful holiday season!
Cecilia:
This year I celebrated some old traditions and started some new ones! One of my favorite traditions is looking at Christmas lights around town. My boyfriend and I took my sisters out for hot chocolate and a tour of all of Sioux Fall’s best Christmas lights. We used Dakota Holidays’ Christmas lights guide and rated the houses we saw along the way. Here were our ratings!
Water Wood Wonderland: 4.5
Sioux Falls Christmas Village: 5.5
Candy Cane Lane: 7.25
Santa’s Sleigh: 9.375
Lotta Lane: 10
Western Wonderland: 10
Christmas Story: 8.25
Jacob’s Light Show: 6.125
Our new tradition was taking the time to pick out a theme for our wrapping paper and finding new ways to decorate each present! I’ve always been a terrible gift-wrapper so it took quite a few YouTube tutorials to get the hang of it. Once we figured it out, we had tons of fun wrapping all the gifts and getting them under the tree.
From all of us here at The Sampson House, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope your holiday season is filled with bright memories. We can’t wait to ring in the New Year and are wishing you the best 2021!
