The Ultimate Getaway Guide to Black Hills
The warmth of sunlight, the little sparkling ice, the smoking fragrance from the fireplace, all exuded a cozy charm for our late winter work retreat. Staying in a rustic wooden cabin in the heart of nature, our team had such an amazing time bonding and brainstorming creative work.
Destination: The Black Hills
Distance from Sioux Falls: 6 hour-road trip. Wonder how we killed our time: 99% Invisible Podcasts, The Bachelor, and Taylor Swift.
Stay: Sheep Hill Chalet in Lead, South Dakota
Duration: 4 days 3 nights
Agenda: Relax, team bonding, explore the Black Hills, wine tasting, munchies, snacking, brainstorming.
DAY 1
Arrived in Black Hills
Chill. Chill. Chill.
We spent our first couple hours playing games, visiting and settling in.
The Best Game Ever, also called “The Fish Bowl” introduced by Gabby, was truly the best game for ice-breakers. 3 rounds: use words - acting - sounds to describe random words.
We then headed to The Sled Haus , a German restaurant, for dinner. Specialty: Sausage + Big Portions.
DAY 2
Explore Black Hills
We woke up to a beautiful scene of Winter Wonderland.
Our in-house chefs made amazing burritos from our leftover food from The Sled Haus.
After homemade breakfast, we worked and brainstormed while cuddling up in blankets and drinking hot coco. This winter drink is a must-have for us: It was not only tasty, but also an energy booster amidst the freezing winter.
Prairie Berry Winery & Miner’s Brewing Company are must-visit places if you love wines and beer.
We got to sample 7 wines of our choice and learned how they were made.
Prairie Berry Winery had great sandwiches, soup, pizza and other snacks if you need to fill your stomach between meals.
DAY 3
Terry Peak Ski
It took us 45 minutes to get suited up, but it was all worth it!!!
The weather was really nice. Enough snow to ski, but not too much to freeze to death.
Pro Tip: Download Snoww app to follow friends and compare ski and snowboard statistics, or compete with other skiers and snowboarders.
After 3 hours of skiing, we had a “legendary” dinner at the Legends Steakhouse in Deadwood.
We were lucky enough to order two bone-in prime ribs which are limited in quantities. The steak was 30 oz each. Yes. You didn’t read that wrong. It was 30 oz for one portion. So, we had 60 oz for our table.
LAST DAY - DAY 4
Homeward Bound
You can’t EPIC shit with basic people
It was a FANTASTIC trip with these amazing people
Can’t wait for our next Team Work Retreat!!!
