Recap: Volunteering for Feeding South Dakota
A couple of weeks ago, the Sampson House had an amazing opportunity to volunteer our time with Feeding South Dakota. This is an amazing organization that helps individuals and families within SD through programs such as the Food Bank, Food Pantry, Mobile Food Pantry, Commodity Distribution, and numerous child hunger programs.
Specifically, we helped with their BackPack Program. This is a food assistance program that provides at-risk school-aged children with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food during weekends and holidays when school is not in session. Nearly 5,000 packages of food are distributed weekly to hungry children, who otherwise would not have food, all across SD through the BackPack Program. We helped to unpack cans and boxes that then went onto an assembly line and into BackPacks that feed students all across South Dakota.
