Meet Our Summer Intern: Meg!
Meet our summer intern, Meg! She's a doll and with just two weeks under her belt, she's already making a huge statement here at TSH. As the digital media coordinator + copywriter for both CH Patisserie and Coquette Couture, she's got her hands full with some of our favorite accounts. Keep an eye out for all her creative ideas. We are excited to have her!
Name: Meg Kelly
College: University of Minnesota
Major: Strategic Communication with Minors in Spanish and Design
What projects are you working on at The Sampson House?
Right now I’m helping manage social media for CH Patisserie and Coquette Couture, finding inspiration for photo shoots, and writing blog posts.
What do you spend your time doing when you’re not working on TSH?
After studying abroad for 5 months and traveling all the time, I’m appreciating the comforts of being at home with family and the simple pleasures of South Dakota.
Where is home for you and what conjures up the feeling of home?
Home for me is 3 cities - Sioux Falls, Minneapolis and Seville. I’ll always consider my roots to be in South Dakota. Minneapolis has become another home for me while going to college there and Seville is where my spanish family is. I’m definitely planning on retiring in Seville someday, but hopefully can make it back there before I’m old and am embarrassing my grandkids. For me, the people make home what it is and I’m lucky to know some pretty awesome humans in all three cities :)
What are you reading right now?
Mindy Kaling’s book - Is everyone hanging out without me? (and other concerns) - MUST READ, I am constantly loling.
What is your ideal weekend?
Road tripping with friends somewhere - could be the lake or Minneapolis, destination doesn’t matter as long as a solid aux cord and gas station snacks are involved.
What app could you not live without?
VSCO - I love playing around with the filters a little too much.
What’s your go-to coffee beverage?
Right now I can’t get enough of iced dirty chai’s
When did you develop an interest in marketing?
When I was younger I loved to put on shows for my parents with my sisters. In Kindergarten I would always check out the picture books because I thought it was more interesting to make up my own stories. Throughout high school I continued to stay involved in musicals and choir. In college, I was drawn to the Weisman Art Museum on campus where I was able to hang out with some rad people and cool art. Ever since I can remember I’ve loved to create - whether it’s been singing, making up stories or surrounding myself with creations that have inspired me. I like marketing because it gives me the opportunity to continue to create.
What drew you to The Sampson House?
I really love the authentic creativity and the idea that no idea is too big here, the sky's really the limit. Good vibes for sure when you walk into the beautiful downtown office space and get to spend some time with Val, Angie and Kerry :)
Favorite way to blow off steam?
Watching Modern Family reruns helps distract me and never fails to make me laugh.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and what would you order?
I would brunch with Rashida Jones - I feel like she appreciates a good brunch. We would start off with some mimosas and then she would order an omelette, I would get french toast so we could share a nice savory/sweet combo.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
Sometimes the best idea is being open to a new idea - from none other than my mom
What’s your favorite thing about your internship?
I love having the chance to be allowed and encouraged to create and help out with some pretty rad clients.
What’s your ultimate bucket-list travel destination?
New Zealand. I HAVE to see the original Hobbiton Movie Set from the Lord of the Rings trilogy before I die.
Ultimate favorite college moment?
Dressing up as bats for halloween with my friends. We made our own costumes - sparkly wings included. Still have yet to detach the wings from my dress...
Favorite restaurant?
Mama’s Ladas - my fav is their beef enchilada. Also, who doesn’t love chips & guac??
3 interesting things about you:
I like second day mac & cheese, I sang at Carnegie Hall my senior year of high school and I just got back from a semester in Seville, Spain where I completed my spanish minor. During my 5 months abroad I traveled to Madrid, Barcelona, Carmona, Valencia, Canary Islands, Naples, Rome, Amalfi Coast, Paris, Geneva, Interlaken, Dublin, Galway, Tangier, Chefchauen, Tetuan, Mallorca, London, Budapest, Copenhagen, Athens, Santorini and Iceland. Basically my goal was to make the most of my student loans and see as much as I could while I was there :-)
What are you currently listening to on your I-pod?
Tom Odell’s latest album WRONG CROWD. He is so dreamy and I am so bummed he didn’t give me a personal tour of his London studio when I was there. ://
Ultimate dream career?
Getting paid to be Grace Coddington’s right hand lady at Vogue - we would dream up some cool photo shoots while being surrounded by her cats. I guess this would mean I would have to start liking cats.
