LEARN MORE ABOUT LUKE BELOW
How did you first learn about TSH and what drew you to us?
I’ve worked with Jeff Sampson at numerous weddings over the years as a freelance videographer when he was the photographer, so I recognized the name right when TSH started. The immediate draw was Jeff himself since he was always so easy and fun to work with. I also loved the online presence that I saw of TSH - aesthetically I loved the look. The smaller, more intimate size of the company seemed very appealing to me as well.
What are 3 words to describe The Sampson House?
Passionate, Fresh, & Collaborative.
What projects are you currently working on? Which have been your favorite so far?
I haven’t started any projects here just yet, but looking through past projects and all the different clients is getting me excited and geared up to begin!
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
Having a collaborative team of creative minds to work with is by far the most motivating. Being a freelancer the past 9 years, I haven’t had the opportunity to really have coworkers, so it’s an exciting thing for me.
What do you spend your time doing when you’re not at work?
I enjoy exercising and just getting to move my body. I love being outdoors when I can, but I also love watching a new tv show or movie (preferably at the theater).
When did you develop an interest in art, design, and marketing?
I’ve always been imaginative and loved creating things since I was a kid. Art has been a constant in my life since day one. While not in the arts as careers themselves, my dad’s entrepreneurial side and love of films and my mom’s gift of hosting parties and inherent knack for decorating definitely planted the seeds in me. I was also voted Most Artistic in high school, so they all basically forced me into this.
What’s a current marketing trend you see happening right now?
Short, quick, attention-grabbing videos. The TikTok generation and our short attention spans as a society have definitely impacted the marketing world.
Who would be your dream client to work with and why?
Milk Bar. When I went to NYC in 2019 I think we went to a Milk Bar location 5 or 6 times. I love Christina Tosi, the owner, and the branding that they do now. I also have the world’s biggest sweet tooth, so anytime I can be around sweets I’m having a good time.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
“If you sprinkle when you tinkle, please be neat and wipe the seat.”
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Curious, Joyful, and Empathetic.
What’s your favorite thing about your position?
The different kinds of projects I get to work on. It keeps things interesting and maintains my creativity to have that variety.
What’s your ultimate bucket-list travel destination?
I think now it’s Switzerland, but I’ve always been fascinated by Ancient Greece and Rome, so those will always be up there.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Betty White. She was just the epitome of beauty, humor, and class. I also firmly believe she was my grandma even though she never had any biological children.
Your favorite restaurant?
In Sioux Falls? Bread & Circus. In Honolulu? Koko Head Cafe.
3 Interesting things about you:
I lived in Honolulu, Hawai’i for 3 years.
I won the 4th grade Lyon County Fair spelling bee (and beat our would-be senior class valedictorian!!)
I background acted in a handful of episodes of NCIS: HAWAI’I and Magnum P.I. and the Hallmark movie Aloha Heart. A lot of the scenes I was in got cut, but be on the lookout for the back of my head or my side profile if you don’t blink!
What are you currently listening to on your playlist?
I love all sorts of music. I’m a hardcore Nicki Minaj & T-Swift fan, but I also love Bob Marley, Alan Jackson, 50’s doo-wop, and K-pop (like Blackpink) - to name a few.
The last three songs I’ve listened to are:
Last Night’s Mascara - Griff
Long Story Short - Taylor Swift
THERAPY - Elliphant
Go-to TV show?
The Golden Girls, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, and PEN15. All comfort shows that I can watch at any time and usually whenever I can’t decide on something else.
How do you define success?
You know that little giddy jolt of happy energy you get after you have a cup of something caffeinated? I think anytime I feel that organically in life, whether it be completing a project I’m proud of or being around people that I love or taking in the view at the end of a hike, that is success to me. That tells me I’ve done something right.
What do you bring to the table here at TSH?
Usually a nice cheesy potato dish. But also, I bring some new energy and my knowledge of video production and storytelling to collaborate with the creative minds here at TSH!
