ADDY 2020: Best Moments from the Advertising Award

We look forward to the ADDYs award show every year—who doesn’t love dressing up, eating appetizers, and celebrating the incredible work of South Dakota’s advertising agencies?—but the 2020 show was extra special for the Sampson House team. 

As the primary creative sponsor of the event, we provided full service from strategy and ideation to digital marketing, PR, and event coordination. Designing the experience was definitely a unique challenge, but we were excited to put our expertise to work. 

With a modern noir aesthetic inspired by carnivals, the ADDYs creative work featured a black and white color palette with bronze accents. We incorporated unexpected whimsical touches through the whole evening. Check out some of our favorite moments from the big night!

HIGHLIGHTS

6–7:30 PM: Cocktail Hour

Beer Wall

As guests arrived at the Washington Pavilion for the event, they were drawn to the focal point of the cocktail hour—the beer wall set up by Jane Rae Events.

What a pitcher-perfect moment

Every time a thirsty guest rang the bell, gloved hands reached out through the wall to offer an ADDYs-branded beer, brewed in collaboration with Sioux Falls’ own Fernson Brewing Company.

Setting the Scene

To accentuate the atmosphere of intrigue, we had our staff look the part. The server costumes were inspired by “Capitol Couture” from The Hunger Games whilst our Monsieur Jeremy Brech (also known as DJ Jer) was styled as a real ringmaster.

7:30 PM: It’s Showtime!

Onstage

DJ Jer, assisted by a trophy-toting mime, took center stage to introduce and showcase our region’s most fantastic advertising work from the past year. 

Magical Performance

It’s not a carnival without a little magic! Between awards, Magician Travis Nye lit up the stage with his fire-eating and interactive magic tricks.

And The Award Goes To . . . The Sampson House!

As the night reached its climax, the Sampson House team was over the moon hearing our name announced six times. With two Gold awards and four Silver, this was definitely our most successful ADDYs year so far!

OUR WINNERS

Ammunition Wine

Ammunition Wine was our big winner of the night, taking home five awards including social media campaign, website, Instagram feed, cinemagraphs, and online/interactive video.

We developed brand strategy and created a variety of social campaigns as well as creative work to grow their online presence. We were thrilled to show our peers what we’d been up to with this brand!

In early 2020, we officially launched our new website. This is a project that our team had been committed to for a while, and it felt so good not only to have that big project complete but also to have it recognized with an award.

We’d like to special thanks all the vendors that sponsored the event and partnered with us to put on such an amazing show. 

Huge props to our creative crew for the hard work, as well as to our clients for giving us the freedom to create beautiful work. We wouldn't be able to achieve these awards without the continued trust of clients. We’re excited to continue on another year of challenging ourselves, learning and growing.
